{ Capitán de barco y guerra }

Este fin de semana fui a ver la película Master and Commander que tanto se ha comentado en la bitácora de Crisei. Reconozco que mis pre-juicios sobre la película no eran halagüeños, pero después de los comentarios que en el chat habían hecho del film Chewie y Daurmith me lo repensé. De hecho, tuve que convencer al paleoFreak para que se viniera.

Esta tarde, Roberto me ha pasado un enlace a la página de Arturo Pérez Reverte, donde se comenta la película. El autor de las hazañas del Capitán Alatriste, escribe en El viejo amigo Jack Aubrey un delicioso receso, casi tan bueno como los que nos tiene acostumbrados Rafael Marín:

«Les juro a ustedes por mis muertos que hacía mucho tiempo que el cine no me deparaba dos horas de felicidad tan absoluta. He disfrutado como un gorrino en un maizal. Si para un espectador normal, de infantería, la película es una magnífica historia de aventuras navales, para los que pertenecemos a la cofradía de lectores de novelas de Patrick O'Brian [...] la película interpretada por Russell Crowe, clavado en el papel de capitán Aubrey, es, amén de perfecto estudio psicológico de personajes, una delicia técnica».


La película es una gozada, en especial debido al naturalista y médico de la tripulación. Master and commander narra la persecución y batalla entre dos naves, que comienza en la Centroamérica Atlántica y continúa por la Pacífica. Uno de los puntos más interesantes es la tensión entre el naturalista y el capitán cuando pasan cerca de las Galápagos: ¡qué tesoros científicos aguardan a quien pueda estudiarlos con detalle! No desvelo más ;)

El artículo de Pérez Reverte termina con la siguiente reflexión:

«Resulta inevitable comparar. ¿Imaginan aquí? ¿Se hacen a la idea de que un guión con diálogo como el que abre este artículo sobre la mesa de un ministro o de un político?... En este país de gilipollas, donde no es precisamente asunto histórico lo que falta para el cine, todo cristo se la habría cogido con papel de fumar, no fuera que se ofendiese tal o cual autonomía [...] No quiero imaginar lo que pasaría si en España se destinaran ciento cuarenta kilos de mortadelos a una película. Dos de cada tres productores se embolsarían ciento veinte, y con el resto harían una puñetera mierda».


Ahí queda eso.

Lo bueno es cómo integran en el guión el hecho de que el médico no pudiera descender en las Galápagos, y, cuando lo hizo, tuviera que soltar los animales. De hecho, fue Darwin con la Endeavor el que finalmente estudió las Galápagos.

No, hombre, fue en la Beagle. En la época de Darwin aún no existían los transbordadores espaciales :-)
