{ Todos estos momentos }

Hace unos días, en una lista de astronomía, me preguntaron por qué acompañaba el pie de mis correos electronicos con la cita de Blade Runner «Todos estos momentos se perderán en el tiempo como lágrimas en la lluvia». Y esto fue lo que respondí.

Cuando uno mira el Campo Profundo del Hubble, todos los puntos que se ven en las imágenes no son estrellas, son galaxias, unas más cerca, otras más lejos. Miles de galaxias en un trocito pequeño del cielo. Y por cada galaxia hay miles de millones de estrellas y en ellas, otros tantos planetas. Y todo está compuesto de lo mismo que nos compone a nosotros: quarks, fotones, electrones, átomos, moléculas, electricidad... ¿Cuántas civilizaciones vivieron, se expandieron y se extinguieron en esas galaxias? ¿Cuántos mundos, cuántos seres, cuántos genios, cuántas músicas, cuántos inventos desaparecieron en el olvido entrópico y de los que jamás llegaremos a saber nada? No imagino cómo el ser humano puede ser algo tan trascendentalmente diferente de lo que, intuimos, hay ahí. Por eso no creo en dioses antropocéntricos, ni en vidas futuras.

Al contrario de lo que pueda parecer, para mi el epitafio de Roy Batti no es apología del nihilismo. Es una invitación a la reflexión de cómo y en qué invertimos nuestro tiempo vital, de en qué vale la pena dedicar esfuerzos y en qué no. Sin esperanzas de vida eterna, para mi, la única forma de sobrevivir será en la memoria de los seres que convivieron conmigo. Como decía Benjamin Franklin: «Si no quieres ser olvidado, tan pronto estés frito, escribe cosas que valgan la pena ser leídas o haz cosas que valgan la pena ser escritas». Quizás la divulgación es la forma en la que lo intento, pero iluso de mi, ni soy Homero, ni soy Aquiles.
